This book definitely has both authors' writing styles in it. I felt it was more Dekker with the horror and Peretti with the spiritual, which is sticking with their writing. Unfortunately, this book seemed closer to a Stephen King novel than anything spiritual. Our book club read it and not a single one of us cared for it.

I enjoyed Dekkers "colored" books: Red, White, and Black. I've also enjoyed Peretti's books such as This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness. Unfortunately, House was distressingly dark. Think of movies like Halloween or Texas Chainsaw Masacre.

Definitely not a book I would recommend to any faint of heart reader.

This was a very dark & disturbing book. Not as "spiritual" as Frank Peretti usually is. And a little more extreeme in the suspense/horror that Ted Dekker usually uses. It kept my attention. I was incredibly curious as to how it would end. But, it wasn't really that great. I prefer each author when he writes his own book!

I agree, but I think that the ending was good.

I hope there will be a movie out real soon. I loved this book. I got this from crossings. as a freebee not realizing how this book would capture my attention.
All the books on my shelf are books that I own or have owned and recently given away.

Did the movie ever come out for this book? Seemed like the story just kept going on and on. I have not finished it yet as I was losing interest. Kind of disappointed - it started off good.

That is exactly how I felt. I loved the beginning and there was real promise, but it just felt so dragged out.

The movie was supposed to be release by Fox Faith in late 07, but they dropped it because of the R rating. http://www.teddekker.com/site.php?&content=community&sub=board&com=board&brd=topic_224565
It's since been picked up and should be released at a TBD date in 2008.

I saw this book on many shelfs and thought, "wow it must be good." It starts out good and then takes a dive. It's such a simple and boring read. I don't recommend it. I'm going to finish reading it because I paid for it. But it's going to take a bit of an effort on my part.

A movie on this book? Jeez, if the book's no good, why would they bother with a movie? I guess teen agers might enjoy it. On the other hand, they have much better movies to choose from.

    • morrighan - I agree. The book started out good and stayed good throughout most of the story. However, prepare yourself for a hokey ending.

What? Wait, I think you misread my post. The book was good up until they were in the house having dinner,(the beginning) after that it took a dive and stayed down. The rest of the book I don't agree was any good. On top of that there's a hokey ending? The whole story was "hokey." Pewwww

I should've known this wasn't going to be any good... One of the authors was Frank Peretti, I don't particularly like his writing.

    What a waste... :( ho-hum

    • Just curious. If you knew one of the authors was Frank Peretti, then why did you get the book? Is it because you like Ted Dekker?

I read it cause I want to read all of his books. But I did that with David Baldacci and never should have read "The Hour Game." Some books go too far.

Well, I asked about this book and I got 5 yes's to 1 no. Why is it such a disappointment? I don't want to waste my time.

My main complaint with the book was the characters. They weren't likable and given the nature of the book, you needed to be pulling for the characters. I didn't care if their situation was resolved or not. The ending was also pretty weak and it had an overall disjointed feeling. I usually finish books by both authors within 2-3 days. It took me 2.5 weeks to finish House.

I wasn't disappointed with the characters, I was disappointed with the fact that nothing was really resolved for me. I still have questions about parts of the book, and reading the synopsis of the movie made things even more unclear.

I must be an odd one out. I really enjoyed the book. I even enjoyed it more after reading Saint by Dekker...won't say why for those who haven't read both. I did read it first, and then got into more Dekker through the Circle trilogy. Anyway, I didn't think it was a waste of time.

I see that these post are old but i just wanted to say that there is a movie to this book, i just found it and watched it. Sadly it was one of those 90 minute movies. I didn't know about the book until after the credits started rolling, now I'm on a journey to find this book and read it.
