I've been in the queue at the library to read this book for almost a month, and it is regularly mentioned on 43folders, Zen Habits, etc. The anticipation was high as I finally got this book. I was really interested in the book's premise, which is deciding...” see full review » see other reviews » |

Use your resources of time and money to focus on what you are good at. We've all had ideas that we thought would be a great product; some ideas are better than others. The DIP is the gap between where you are now and taking the next step that will make you great! Seriously, this book is less than 80 pages, can be read in a 2 hours or less.”

I am not very good at sticking it out. I don’t like pain and I don’t like to work beyond the point that causes it.
Seth Godin helped me to learn when to quit. Everyone faces the dip. In the dip, things get interesting. In the dip, you experience the place where things get bad for a short time. In the dip, the moment comes where you quit or you stick.
This book helped me to understand that the dip has something on the other side worth gaining. If you power through the dip, the upside has so much more to give us. The upside can give you something so worth having that it makes the time in the deep seem so small.
What does this mean practically. I pastor Hope Community Church. It has been a great joy but also a really hard time. Hope has seen amazing things happen in a year (yesterday was our one year birthday). Yet what happens when you string all those things together and they don’t seem enough to power you through the dip. We have seen 19 life changes in the last year. Some churches do not even see one. Yet, at the end of year, burnout has set into me.
This book has allowed me to take stock our dip and recognize as such. This dip has not become a cul-de-sac where we never get out of the cycle. We (Hope) has powered through the dip and works the uphill climb. Every person has become a partner in the truest sense of the word. We have each picked up our responsibilities and are moving forward.
I cannot wait to see what God will do in year two of Hope’s existence. I know this dip is not the last one. However, I do know that we will know when to quit and when to stick. Quitting isn’t bad. Sticking can be. You just got to know when to hold ‘em and know when to fold ‘em.”
“Recommendation came from school administrators. Not helpful!”

I was perhaps looking for the wrong thing, but the loads of examples and snappy writing found in his others books did not make their way into this one. I'd say most people could skip out on this one (or, to steal the mantra of this book, quit before you start reading it!).”
