“‘What you produce, what you create must stand on its own feet,’ she continued, ‘regardless of your sex. We are supposed to have won all the battles for our rights to be individuals, but in the arts women are still put in a class by themselves, and I resent it, as I have always rebelled against discriminations or limitations of a woman’s experience on account of her sex.’ Edna St.Vincent Millay
I picked this book up on a whim and what a gem. Edna St.Vincent Millay had a unconventional childhood and a unconventional life. She was the first American female poet to receive the Pulizer Prize. I knew some of her poetry but knew nothing about the woman and what a fascinating life she lead.
Vincent was the rockstar of her generation with a mesmerizing voice and sold out shows everywhere she traveled.
Thanks to Nancy Milford the this important woman will continue to live on.”
