It is the story of two sisters, Berta and Glenna; told from Berta's point of view. It is set around the turn of the century, in the 1900's. They love each other, but are not close, due to Berta's jealousy of Glenna, who seems to have it all, beauty, a successful husband and family, and is loved by all. As a child Berta decides to make herself as different as possible from her sister, but as an adult she looks into her heart and realizes she has been wrong all those years, and seeks to repair the rift between them.
I really liked the story, but it was a bit "preachy" towards the end.
Still, it's a good book, and one that would be appropriate for a young tee to read also.”
“This book took me a really long time to read. I read the first half a long time ago, and then finished it maybe last year. I know Janette Oke is a popular author, but this story is just about the one sister than about a christian message or even the plot. And frankly, it just isn't that memorable. I haven't read any of her other books, so I can't compare it. But I if you want to try one of her books, I wouldn't pick this one.”
