A British politician is swept into a dangerous sexual relationship with his son’s fiance. From the moment they meet, they seem to be each other’s soulmate. Everyone around them ends up damaged.

This book was even worse than the movie. The writer is a good writer and it was a well written book; however, the man in this book is a total numbskull.

A book about erotic obsession. This book is also a movie starring Jeremy Irons. The movie is also good.

I almost forgot about this one! I absolutely hated the charactors, but just couldn't pull myself from the book. One of the best reads!

Rather depressing, but well written book about a man in a prominent position of wealth and success, married and with children, who starts an affair with a woman about to marry his son. Eventually of course, the obsession leads to horrible tragedies and ruined lives. I was ready for this to end by the last cassette, but it was well done and set in my favorite city of London.

One twisted story. Be prepared to be marked for life.

The story was interesting, but the characters weren't.

All over the cover, this book is billed as a "portrait of psychological and erotic obsession", "A remarkable first novel of awesome accomplishment and quite startling pschological insight" and a "masterpiece". Frankly, I couldn't get past the melodrama to find it so startlingly insightful and/or psychologically erotic. Disappointing, since I'd put off a session of the old how's-your-father with him indoors to read what I imagined was going to be a good old raunchy thriller. Sadly, reading the inane mutterings of a sad old man inexplicably obsessed with a woman carrying more emotional baggage than a meeting of Emotional Cripples Anonymous was even less erotic than watching Norris and Rita bicker in the Kabin in Coronation St. But, if I put that disappointment aside, it wasn't too bad a read. Fast, easy and finished in a matter of hours. I'd give it about 6/10. But not 3/5, if you get what I mean.

Well written. So well that I have to guess that the author had a similar experience. Disturbing, intriguing, and thought provoking. I didn't read anything for a week after I finished this.

Bought this book which arrived from Boston,MA. Read it in around 4-5 hours in one sitting. Had watched the movie based on this book previously which was well made. A different kind of obsession breaking the recognized social structure. I feel if the doc had kept that obsession to himself it would certainly had passed away as time progresses. Thoughts may not easy to control but atleast physical actions are. Au revoir.
