“All over the cover, this book is billed as a "portrait of psychological and erotic obsession", "A remarkable first novel of awesome accomplishment and quite startling pschological insight" and a "masterpiece". Frankly, I couldn't get past the melodrama to find it so startlingly insightful and/or psychologically erotic. Disappointing, since I'd put off a session of the old how's-your-father with him indoors to read what I imagined was going to be a good old raunchy thriller. Sadly, reading the inane mutterings of a sad old man inexplicably obsessed with a woman carrying more emotional baggage than a meeting of Emotional Cripples Anonymous was even less erotic than watching Norris and Rita bicker in the Kabin in Coronation St. But, if I put that disappointment aside, it wasn't too bad a read. Fast, easy and finished in a matter of hours. I'd give it about 6/10. But not 3/5, if you get what I mean.”
