Endearing to the nth. Nelson covers every aspect of being an avid-obsessive reader:
~the torrid book affair that makes you run out and buy the writer's entire oeuvre, only to have the passion die 100 pages into book #2;
~the non-reading spouse who doesn't even notice that you packed...

    Author decides to read a book a week for a year and write about it.

    A book lover will understand and love this book.

    This book is so fun! Her humorous tale of her love for books will have you laughing the whole time. One of the very few books that I could read a second time, because, as this author states, there are too many books to read one again unless it it super special.

    A bit annoying as she read so ,many books i didn't think I would ever read. Good as a source of books i plan to read though.

    I liked this book it was very funny and I could relate to some of the things in this book. It also made me look at reading a bit differently also.

    If I were going to write a book, it would be this one. The was the author portrays her love of books is so in tune with how I feel, I actually photo-copied several pages so I could keep them forever (I don't normally purchase books-] libraries!). Loved it!

    This is great fun. I always like knowing what other people like and dislike about books, and this is 52 reviews wrapped in entertaining anecdotes about the author's life.

    I liked this book a whole lot at the start, not nearly as much in the middle, and came around again near the end. I did resolve to read (or at least check out the reviews on Amazon) of many of the books that she read or mentioned in passing (even her sister's!). I'm not at all sure that I'm going to agree with her assessments of many of them, but it will be fun to check some of them out (although some I nixed immediately after reading more about them).

    Except for a few questionable opinions, she is like my book-twin.

    Endearing to the nth. Nelson covers every aspect of being an avid-obsessive reader:
    ~the torrid book affair that makes you run out and buy the writer's entire oeuvre, only to have the passion die 100 pages into book #2;
    ~the non-reading spouse who doesn't even notice that you packed both Madame Bovary and Anna Karenina for your summer vacation;
    ~friendships shored up or destabilized by book recommendations and/or lends;
    ~chronic insomnia;
    ~the books everybody else loves and you hate (Everything is Illuminated and Tuesdays with Morrie);
    ~the book that you know you should read, but can't get through to save your life. (As my Shelfari friend Dixie quips, "Step away from the unreadable book.")
    ~succumbing to Captain Underpants and his ilk out of terror that your nonreading children will turn out lifetime nonreaders, like dad.

    I was gratified by the 17-title overlap between Nelson's reading and mine--she, the cosmopolitan urban Jewish lady; me, the sheltered Appalachian devotee of Victorian Lit (the big-hat and tea party stuff that bores Nelson stiff) who, it is safe to say, will never read Love Junkie in ten trillion years. I had even read five books to which she devoted whole chapters, making the book all that much more fun for me. Okay, so, one of them was Charlotte's Web. Wanna make somethin' of it?

    I identified with this book in so many ways. Like Nelson says, "...there's always something pleasing and comforting about coming across a character or a situation you think you already know; it's a validation of your own experience."

    This book was not only entertaining, but provided me with a new reading list for the year.
