This is an unusual work by Roland Barthes and undoubtedly my favorite out of all his writings. The premise of the book is the discourse of the lover when they are alone. To quote Barthes, "The necessity for this book is to be found in the following consideration: that the lover's discourse is today *of an extreme solitude*."
