Review: Ow ow ow! My head. It hurts from repeated thunkings on my desk. When the music tag was selected for January, I found three books on my shelf that would fit, and all had tags needed for the CTT challenge as well. Fabulous luck. So why did I choose to start with the hardest book of the three? Because I am an idiot. It took me almost the full month to get through it.

This was a book assigned in a college course a number of years ago, but we only used a handful of pages. I kept it on my shelf, deciding that I'd read the whole thing "someday". I am so glad that someday has come and gone so I can get rid of this book.

This isn't really a BAD book...I gave it two stars because I can tell that it's well thought and well-written. The problem is that it's not really written for the layman...if you don't have more than a general idea of the components of musical composition, you'll be lost. And I was. Very very lost :::weeps piteously:::

However, I'm also insanely stubborn about finishing books I start, even if it takes me forever and makes me cry in frustration while doing it. So I finished it! And the sad thing is that, other than the bits about him wandering the woods for wild mushrooms, I can't tell you much about it because that's the extent that I understood it. So...if you understand the technical side of music and you're interested in Zen philosophy, look this book up. Maybe you can explain it to me when you're done.
