This is a classic that feeds my mind over and over again. The telepathic connection of individuals willing themselves to move beyond their station, beyond social mores speaks to the organic joys of kindred spirits.

Such a boring book, if it wasn't in the curriculum i would have never picked it up. Well, it could of been worse. I mean, Michael didn't go with them so he could save Rachel (and i though he had a head on his shoulders). The David goes and falls in love with his half-cousin, Rosalind. One creepy...

I mean, Michael didn't go with them so he could save Rachel (and i though he had a head on his shoulders). The David goes and falls in love with his half-cousin, Rosalind. One creepy family and a crazy story. Sophie was so much better in the begining. Never reading again.

This is one of those rare books that I personally have read multiple times, and would enjoy reading again and again.
I just love this book and only recently have re-read and enjoyed just as much as if I had just read it for the first time.

Fabulous book. Don't really know why it isn't more popular.

Read it for school (Grade 9).
    Science- fiction.

Interesting book, but i did not enjoy the ending how it mixed "primitive' like living to modern like living. Having a helicopter mixed in with people who were farmer/ settlers.

I was able to get only its audiobook but I was instantly intrigued! It seems very well written and well-thought-of!

A really amazing dystopian sci-fi book from the 1950s. A really terrific story that readers of books like The Giver would love. Set in the far future, in a time when people are living in much more primitive, village-like settings. Religious beliefs have evolved to the extent that people believe any difference from what is "normal" (make in the image of God) cannot be tolerated. A small group of children find themselves able to communicate telepathically, but live in terror of being found out. A terrific story that leads to a thrilling escape/journey, with a surprising ending. I may do this one as a read-aloud this year.
