Andy Du Fresne, innocently convicted of double homicide is sent to the Shawshank State Penitentiary in Maine for the rest of his life. He becomes friends with Red, who is able to smuggle anything into the prison. Andy hears that some of the guards are having financial issues and helps them run financial scams from the library he helps build. A new inmate, Tommy, comes in who says that he met the man who killed the people Andy was convicted of killing. After 20 years in prison, Andy escape with the help of Red's smuggling skills.
