King's novels always feel like they're meant to be short-stories, not full-length books. Having said that, I enjoyed it much more than I expected.

Though mildly entertaining, this story is not in the same class as "The Stand" or "Salem's lot". It is obviously a commercial endeavor, and in such a capacity it was indeed wildly successful, but it lacks any literary value.

For the life of me, I couldn't get into these books. What am I missing?

Obviously one of King's works from his younger years, but not a bad read. And critical to the series.

A good opener to the series. I read the 'revised' version. It seems a bit stilted in places, perhaps due to his change as a writer in the interval.

Not entirely my style, but I can appreciate it as a good piece of literature.

Good beginning to this series. It's a little confusing at first, but it truly makes you think! You can't help but be attracted to the mystery of Roland and The Man In Black. The curiosity of Mid-World is something that drags you into it, making you want to understand its strange mysteries.

I like this series, and the graphic novels as well. I Still have to read books 4-7 and any other graphic novels they put out for it.

The book that set the precedent for the series that I would devote the more recent years of my life to.

Consequently, if you like(d) this book you may or may not like the rest of the series.

I ended up liking this enough to continue reading the series; but it took me forever to get started.
