“I finally came around to reading the first book of the series after putting it off for years as a Stephen King Western just did not sound "right" to me. I recently decided to give the series a go, as I am a King fan and have read many reviews praising it (with some comparing it to the "Stand", which I loved!). And so I began reading "The Gunslinger" with the expectation that King would sweep me up and into this acclaimed series. I officially waved my white flag on page 139. I could not for the life of me get engaged into this story. It is not often that I give up on a book after getting beyond the first 100 or so pages, but there are just too many other books on life's virtual book shelf to continue on with one that has me daydreaming of vampires, rabid dogs & pet sematarys. ”
