First book to inspire me in more ways than one: includes many mysterious characters and a world that is open to imagination. Leave reality out the door when you read this.

I read the original version, then the revised. The changes weren't so dramatic that they would change the review.

*The Gunslinger* is the first book in the Dark Tower series, and actually stands alone more easily than the subsequent six books. The story comes to an (uneasy) break at its...

I think he was a better writer when he was younger.

I love picking up the first book of a long series, hoping I'll get sucked in and have a lot of good books to read. Unfortunately, this fell short. I'm not sure if it was the pace or the lack of suspense or the characters, but I was waiting for this book to end so I could move on to something else. I won't be reading the other Dark Tower books. Definitely my least favorite of all the King/Bachman books I've read, which are many.

I loved this book becuase it was really good. Even though the beggining was slow it was still a really good book. It was good because there was great detail and really good descriptions of what was happening. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes western stories or violent stories

"The Gunslinger" bye Stephen King is the first book in the "Dark Tower" series. It takes place in an alternate world, very much like our own, and follows a character named Roland, who is in search of the mythical Dark Tower. During his journey, he comes across a boy named Jake, who has been thrust out of the world as we know it today, and into the one of Roland. In my opinion, this wasn't one of King's best. I mean, it wasn't totally boring, but it really could have had a lot more action. There were many parts of the book where it was just kind of a chore to read. So yeah, all in all, not very good, but not painfully bad in between. Just a not-so-happy medium.
