The Stand is like that. You either love it or hate it, but you can't ignore it. Stephen King's most popular book, according to polls of his fans, is an end-of-the-world scenario: a rapidly mutating flu ... (read more)

What's not to like ..... plague destroys civilization .... a ragtag group of survivors off on a quest against evil .... a mixture of religion, morality, etc This is the best Stephen King novel I've read!!! Sadly it left me wanting more! ..... but I guess all good novels are that way ...... movie?

One of my favorite King tales. Recommend you skip the movie - it takes too much away from the story.

Hi Nancy! This is one of my favorite, if not THE favorite Stephen King book I have read. It is definately worth the time to read and absorb.

I read it in the summer of 93.

Oh, I do remember seeing the Children of the Corn on TV as a mini-series and was scared outta my mind. I remember the first segment was on when I was baby-sitting and thinking that it wasn't a good choice to be watching as I walked home in the dark. I never did read the book. Is it worth while?

I read this long before King was known as a Horror writer...or before he became so "hollywood", so I had no preconceived notions. I just loved this book and after reading some of these comment think I have to dust it off and read it again. My other two favorites by him are The Talisman and Tommyknockers.
I never did see the movie of this, but it sounds like I wasn't missing anything! : )

When I saw the movie I thought "thats nothing like I thought they would look like!" It's too bad they cut the part out when the boy almost kills Larry.
