It's suspenseful and hard to put down. I'm not even halfway through, but I know that this will probably be one of my favorite books.”

They came out with "positive" results, giving them supernatural abilities. The main story lies with their offspring, which inherited a blend of the parents genes and who became a prime target of a government agency who are keen to study her abilities. The story seems pretty cliche but because of the way it was written, it was very captivating...with the way the plot unfolds, the larger than life characters, etc. I could not put the book downuntil the end and even then it leaves me craving for more. I loved it!”

Since it doesn't seem to have a place in the intricate web of King's interlaced "Dark Tower stories," The Firestarter sort of has to stand by itself. You can tell by the modest length that it is early King, and it is related to some of his other early novels in that the main character possesses a special talent that leads to all the mayhem (like Carrie and The Dead Zone. It's pretty fast-paced, and it has one of those King uber-villains we've come to expect (John Rainbird), but he is horrifying not because he is so overtly violent and hateful but because he is subtle and manipulative...and, of course, he doesn't care if he gets killed going after his objective...in fact, that IS his objective in a way. There's a bit of science fiction here as well as some government conspiracy. References to Fahrenheit 451,1984 and some pretty good movies were also nice treats. Once I got going, it was hard to stop...even after all these years, the terrible movie, and the fact that I remembered the ending.”

Years later, when his daughter Charlie is born, she shows the beginning of a horrific talent, the ability to start fires with her mind. But now a government agency called The Shop, the same one who injected Andy with Lot Six all those years ago, wants Charlie for their own. And now, on the run with no money, food, or car, Andy and Charlie must evade the closing jaws of The Shop before they are captured and disappear forever. From the sea of chaos that is the mind of Stephen King, comes the riveting story of psychic powers, horrifiying truths, and the dynamic power of the human mind.”
