I had mixed feelings about this book about the suffragettes just after the Civil War. Many of the characters were real people and it was hard to know when the author was basing the story on known facts and when she was just making things up. It was a wild, sexy, violent era and the book tries to cover it all.

I really enjoyed reading this. Post-Civil War NYC is surely an interesting time period. There was a lot in this book that really pissed me off--but it was really the characters and attitudes that did so. If the book is accurate than as much as things have changed, they really are the same. Still people trying to tell other's what to do based on their own religious and so-called *morals*. Ah well, I really want to go read the Women's Bible now...
