I don't agree that every book has to completely wrap up every last detail. I can't believe people can trash such a beautiful book just because the ending didn't do what you thought.

Reading the reviews leaves me a bit confused. Now I don't know whether I should bother with this book or not. If part of the mystery isn't resolved, then- what's the point?! I

I just clicked NO about 20 times in the section where it asks 'Should I read this?' - NO - the end is disappointing - I checked the binding to make sure there weren't missing pages - I was incredulous - the main mystery of the whole story is just dropped and forgotten at the end. Pardon me for wanting that to be cleared up for the payoff.

OMG, so bad. Slow moving. I kept getting distracted by what was going on and wondering if the story would ever go anywhere? This book should have been half as long as it was. I'm wondering who paid for the acclaim its received, and if I can put some of that cash to better use.

In the Woods was on Nancy Pearl's rec. reading list, and it sounded interesting. I'm only about 100 pages in, but it is very engaging. I guess I like dark thrillers. So far, I really like the main character's cynicism. The prologue, I thought, was really strong. French's writing is subtle yet still encourages detailed imagery in my mind. I can't wait to find out what happens.

Fascinating book. Great character studies. I thought this was in the same league as Minette Walters.

I'm very curious to know what other readers thought of the ending - I've seen some blog posts and comments in which some readers said they felt like French obliquely indicated the solution to the original mystery (for example, at least one person said it was obvious that Adam/Rob had killed his friends), but I felt like it was left very open-ended. I can't decide what I think about it - it's certainly more realistic that the 20 year old crime is left unsolved, but I think I prefer more closure in fiction.

I enjoyed the book, I was just hoping for more to be cleared up at the end.
