The book that inspired the song "Killing an Arab" by the Cure, a skinhead anthem in the UK. An Algerian friend said to me: " Camus is a racist, tout simple!"

Existentialism existing in a minefield of human misinterpretation as Camus struggles with the simplicity of the written word in trying to educate a readship he feels himself to be above. Is the outsider outside or is he on the inside, in a world that considers the normal just that slight of the curve, but finds the special that more real. Does Camus deliver the only Christ we deserve? No but he has fun trying.

Oh! I cannot forget reading this book. I was dumb. I thought and thought and thought about life. It electrifed me. It tried to change my view of life. It may be 20 years back. I still want to read it again.

Fabulous book. Society's prejudices against a person who behaves differently, who does not pretend, is depicted very well. A bit depressing...but one has to admit, very true

It is definitely one of the most thought provoking books I have ever read. L'Etranger leaves a lasting impression. It throws up a lot of existential questions-- the purpose of life, one's place in society, emotional disconnect, the price of non-conformism...
Best of all, people will "read" into it from a current standpoint, based on the experiences they are going through at the moment. .. It is one book which you read not for its plot and characters but for what lies between the lines....

It is one of those rare masterpieces which ceases to be merely a book but becomes a referral guide, written words with which you find yourself associating too often, a treatise on how to conduct your life and most importantly a work that brings to light the underlying yet fundamental absurdity of our existence.
