This was one of those books that had an amazing charm for me when I was about eight years old, and I reread it guiltily for several years. I thought Cat, the psion to which the title refers, was the coolest futuristic orphan ever.

Sometime in the distant future, the illiterate and homeless Cat discovers he has psionic powers. Both humans and an alien race want to use Cat’s new powers for their own ends, yet, as an outsider to both races, he needs to find his own...
