  “I'm teaching this book in a College Composition course. The essays are excerpted from longer works, which means that some of them are taken out of context, which sometimes can cause trouble. There is also the danger, as some of the Amazon user comments indicate, that the students may find it pretentious or leftist. This is a risk I'm willing to take in order to teach essays that are more interesting than the usual popular culture claptrap taught at the Composition level. It does mean, however, that I have to work harder as an instructor.”
