Before reading this book, I had never heard of Fern Michaels. That's probably because I tend to avoid chick lit and books with legs on the cover. I must admit 'Hey, Good Looking' wasn't as cheesy as I expected and I liked it. I must also admit that liking it sort of scares me because I don't want to start dotting my i's with hearts and watching movies about angels that fall to earth.

Even though the underlying subject (the death of a close friend) is sad, the overall tone of the book is light and hopeful. At times the characters seem like "Steel Magnolias" rejects, but I cared about them enough to continue the story. File this under guilty pleasures and look for me in the Fern Michaels section.

This book touched my heart as well as my imagination. I know that these books are light reading and not earth shaking but sometimes it is good to read books that make you feel. I just adore Fern Michaels characters!

Tragic beginning - What an ending! Michaels's story of family relationships and tragic circumstances. Though Darby is devastated when her best friend, Russell, dies unexpectedly, she is surprised by her attraction to Ben, Russell's brother. Darby has something special in her aunts all having colorful personalities. With names like Dodo, Diddy and Ducky they shared in the resposibility of raising a sweet and sensitive Darby. The romance felt a bit rushed between Darby and Ben. And I have since noticed that all her her books I've read so far make the cats and dogs as important as the people in the books. She gives them a personality and an active role in her books that baffle me just a bit but the stories are entertaining non the less.

A bittersweet story. Darby Lane's closest friend in the world, Russell Gunn is killed in a tragic accident. She inherits everything he has. He had insisted that he did not want to be a organ donor. His stepmother did it anyway before Darby could get home. She is devastated. His brother, Ben, who she has had a crush on since childhood, tries to help her with the problem. He realizes that she did not love Russell but was only his best friend. Love blooms. Her three excentric aunts do a lot to get rid of Stepmom and get Ben and Darby together

This specific Fern Michaels title was recommended to me by my mom. She had wanted to call me in the middle of the night when she finished reading it. I didn't find it quite that compelling, but it was an enjoyable read.

While overseas, Darby's lifetime best friend is in a serious and his stepmother does not follow the wishes in his living will. Upon Darby's return to Lousiana she feels not only grief, but guilt for not being there and making sure her friends wishes were adhered to. In the meantime, while serving as executor she finds herself interacting with the brother of her best friend which ignites some sparkes and dealing with her crazy aunts' antics.
