I started reading this book to my dd at about age 5. She didn't get it really. Now, she points out all the "clues" in the book at age 7 and understands the story completely. I like books that show me how my kids' minds are growing and this is one of them. Story line: Miss Nelson is a teacher who has a badly behaved class. She disappears one day and a new, mean teacher comes in to sub. The kids discover they miss their old teacher and speculate where she may be and how to find her. Then one day, Miss Viola Swamp, the mean black haired, black dress-wearing sub is gone and lovely Miss Nelson comes back to a newly appreciative class. Back at home, Miss Nelson relaxes in her room and you can notice a black dress, black boots and a black wig in the closet...and understand what that means...at least if you're older than 5 you can! :)

Absolutely one of my favorite books from my childhood...and I couldn't wait to share it with my daughter...and I get to indulge once again with my twins...now I can hardly wait until they're a little older...hope they like it as much as Yasmin and I do.

This was MY favorite book as a child. I made my grandmother read it over, and over, and over...

Kids who loved the Magic School Bus series will like this as well.
