“I found this quite interesting but I can;t really say that I ended up with a deeper appreciation of music. I attended a few concerts while I was reading this and I did pick up more so perhaps it did help. ”

I learned a lot -- much of it minor, and one fundamentally important: I need to pay attention to the melody in classical music. Oddly enough, I've never done this; I listen instead to the overall musical texture. I'm now re-listening to many pieces of music, focusing on the melody and on how the composer plays with it. I'm enjoying my music more. Either Copeland was on to something, or it's just the placebo effect…
