Not one of my favorite Dickens books, but that's not to say it's not still a great book. (How's that for sentence awkward be?) And it contains, in a small role, one of my favorite of Dickens' characters: Whisker.

Thoudh a good one, no doubt; but i didn't liked it much, mainly because there was much misery in it.

I vividly remember the leering Quilp! Interesting like most Dickens, but not the best!

Better than the Pickwick Papers, but hardly an action-packed adventure. I'd recommend it only to students of Dickens.

I really like Dickens, so I liked this.

The nasty dwarf is hilariously evil!

Some feel this is not 'essential' Dickens. I think you don't know Dickens well if you don't read this one. It has his dark side, his alter-ego Daniel Quilp. The death of Nell - and the death of Quilp - are great literary events.

My goal is to read all of Dickens's novels (he wrote 15) in 2009-2010. Some I have read before, but I plan to read them all again. This is my fourth this year. There are a large number of coincidences here, even for Dickens, and a very clear battle between good and evil, with good getting a clear victory.
