“Imagine leaving your loving family to climb Mt. Everest: now imagine getting to the peak of the huge mountain. How would your experience compare to Peak's? ”
“How do you think you would feel towards Josh if you were Peak?”
“Did anyone else think that Peak's dad seemed to often only care about his work and money?”
“What would have happened if he wouldn't have let Sun-Jo go?”
“1) Many of the main characters in the book Peak have changed or evolved in one way or another. The main character, Peak, has changed from being filled with anger and revenge to the type of person who would give you their last dollar. For instance, halfway through the novel, he was told Sun-jo was going to climb with him, which made Peak very angry. When they were ten feet away from the summit. Peak turned around so Sun-jo could have the glory to pay to go back to school. Another character who has changed would be a reporter named Holly Angelo, who was climbing with Peak. When she first got there, she was cold and heartless and was always yelling, but when they made it up to ABC (Advanced Base Camp), she started to become quieter and was nice to the climber. The final character who has changed from the beginning was Peak’s dad, Josh. Josh changed from the beginning because in the beginning the reader is told Josh was never home because of climbing and never really cared that much about Peak. In the end when Peak goes back to his mom’s house on his birthday, Josh actually calls Peak to wish him a happy birthday and told him he will probably write a letter to him. That is how the characters in the book Peak have changed or evolved in one way or another. ”
“2) There were many surprising facts introduced in the novel Peak written by Roland Smith. One surprising fact is the Chinese and the Tibetans are neighbors, but they fight a lot because in the early 90’s there was an all out brawl between the two. The Chinese capture the Tibetans, put them in jail then they put them to work on the chain gangs to breakup rocks on the road, even though they did nothing. Another surprising fact is Mount Everest’s summit is exactly 8,848 meters (29,029 feet) tall. Another surprising fact that is introduced in the book is that there are many different camps on Mount Everest for climbing parties, and they take many precautions because of HAPE (High Altitude Pulmonary Edema). Another surprising fact is that HAPE is like the bends, but it is on a mountain and not underwater. They both happen due to loss of oxygen, but the bends mean there is an excessive amount of carbon dioxide in your blood stream. HAPE is a life-threatening form of non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema that occurs in otherwise healthy mountaineers at altitudes above 2,500 meters (8,200 feet) above sea level. Those were some of the surprising facts introduced in the novel Peak written by Roland Smith.”
“3) My favorite character in the novel, Peak, written by Roland Smith, was Peak. He was my favorite for many different reasons. One was he was always wanted to climb something whether it was a skyscraper, ice wall or Mount Everest. I also liked him because he never gave up. He never gave up because on his way up to ABC (Advanced Base Camp) he wanted to quit, but he was determined to get to the top. Another reason on why I liked Peak so much was that even though he hadn’t seen his dad in years, he still didn’t forget out his mom all the way in New York. The final reason on why I liked Peak so much was even though he barely knew Sun-jo, he let him get to the top so that he could get a lot of money for being the youngest person to climb Mount Everest. He could go back to school with his two sisters, even though Peak would have been the youngest person to reach the top of Mount Everest if he would have climbed 10 more feet. That is why Peak was my favorite character in the novel Peak written by Roland Smith. ”
“Some of the major themes in this book really is adventurous, because of peaks journey to many states to finally realize that he was going to be climbing Everest. Another one of the major themes in this book is intense. The reason why I say intense Is because wow he was climbing Everest at such a young age and for many teenagers climbing the tallest mountain in the world would be very scary. Another major theme in this book would be relationship. The reason why I chose relationship is because peak was a young boy when his father left and he was only five when his mom and Rolf got married. In the reading it says that he didn’t really know what marriage meant. Another example of relationship is when peak hasn’t seen his father in a while and when he goes for his trial he sees his dad. The fourth and final theme is not even really a theme but a good thing about the book, and this book made me want to keep reading it and that was a cool thing about this book because I had to know what happened next after each chapter.”
“What I felt about the main character was that he is really not afraid of anything. Because if my dad told me that we were going to climb Everest I probably would just walk away. I also think peak really sets an example to people when you read this book. Because in the reading there was a kid who tried to be like peak but died trying. In a way he does also do some pretty illegal stuff. But he is doing what he loves to do. Also a lot of his actions sort of tell me to do what I love and try to make my dreams a reality. Another thing that I feel about the main character.”
