It's a romance. What is there to say? It's terribly passionate and fanciful with it's time period. A classic romance novel through and through.

Four Young Ladies enter London society with one common goal: they must use their feminine wit and wiles to find a husband. so a daring husband-hunting scheme is born.
our first wallflower is Annabelle Peyton, determined to save her family from disaster, decides to use her beauty and wit to tempt a suitable nobelman into making an offer of marriage. but Annabelle's most intriguging and persistent admirer, wealthy, powerful Simon Hunt (sooooo HOT) has made it clear that while he will introduce her to irresistible pleasure he will not offer marriage. (of course he did) Annabelle is determined to resist his unthinkable proposition... but it is impoosible in the face of such skillful seduction.
her friends, the other three wallflowers, looking to help, conspire to entice a more suitable gentelman to offer for Annabelle, for only then will she be safe from Simon and her longings. but on one summer night, Annabelle succumbs to Simon's passionate embrace and tempting kisses... and she discovers that love is the most dangerous game of all.

I maybe should have rated this whole series higher because I did buy them all.

I love the Wallflower series! I really regretted not buying it before, since i thought that it was just one of those ordinary regency books, but i was wrong! I actually thanked my friend, who recommended it to me, for letting me know how good it was. And let me tell you that it was, no wait, it is still good! This first book, "Secrets of a Summer Night" was interesting, it may not seem like a 5 star rating book at first, but when you get a taste of the first 4 chapters, you will find yourself incapable of letting it go! (=D

This book took me by surprise. I have always enjoyed this author, but for some reason I always forget about her. This book was different in that the hero was not a titled lord. He was a rich working class man who is in love with the heroine - who is snotty to him because she thinks he's beneath her. But due to circumstances she needs to marry for money to keep her mother from the poor house. So she makes the sacrifice and marries the hero. Their love story was very sweet and a delight to read. The secondary characters (the Wallflowers) were SOO fun. It was an easy enjoyable book through and through.

It was refreshing to read a Regency era romance that colors outside the lines. I’d always taken the fact that peers marry peers as sort of a rule for that period, but this book breaks the rules and does a marvelous job of it. I loved the story and really enjoyed learning some of the history of the period too, without having to wade through a lot of narrative or info dump. Expertly done.

I read the entire series and this was the one I liked the least. I didn't like the heroine so that kinda ruined it for me. My favorite was was Lilian's book, Come Autum, I believe it was called.

This books reminds me of Lisa Kleypas' uncanny ability to capture the mood of the period and make it come alive for the reader. The series follows four young ladies who, tired of being relegated to the sidelines, made a pact to help each other find their dream match. More here.

First book of hers I read. Wonderful story, great leads. The story takes you up and down and around again. But in a good way. This is the first in the Wallflower series and I think the best. Keeper.
