Summary: This book tells the story of lie in the Jewish ghetto in 16th century Prague. The Rabbi, concerned by the mob violence facing the Jews, uses Cabala wisdom to bring the Golem to life; he must then face the question of how to control and stop such a powerful force.

Response: This powerful book is an exceelent example of using picture books with older children; indeed, it would not be appropriate for children much younger than third grade. The story brings up complex moral...
