Rob interviewed top paddlers such as Brandi Baksic, Jenny Kalmbach, Dan Gavere, Nikki Gregg, Steve Boehne, Evan Lloyd, Fletcher Burton, Wade Lawson, Dave Collins, Ken Hoeve, Beau Whitehead, Candice Appelby, Corran Addison, and others. The forward is written by Dave Kalama.

  • Ken Campbell: A longtime sea kayaking guide in the Pacific NW, Ken was the first to paddle the entire length of Puget Sound on a stand up paddle board. Ken has since paddled several hundred more miles using his SUP like a kayak by attaching gear to it's nose for overnight long distance paddles.
  • Nikki Gregg: Fitness professional Nikki Gregg brings her expertise to this book by demonstrating stretches for paddlers as well as strengthening exercises. Her video is "Stand Up Paddle Fitness with Nikki Gregg."
  • Dan Gavere: In the 90's Dan was a top whitewater kayaker winning many world titles. In recent years he found SUP and is now leading the charge for SUP on rivers, but also competes in racing and surfing events. His DVD "The Ultimate Guide to Stand Up Paddling" has great info on the sport. He's a rep for Werner Paddles and Starboard.
  • Corran Addison: Corran invented the planning hulled kayak and is an Olympian whitewater kayaker. A decade ago he began building river surfboards and now is a leading manufacturer for SUP building surf, flatwater and touring boards.
  • Fletcher Burton: Fletcher stood up on a waveski in the late 1990's and now also paddles a SUP for the Tomahawk Board Company. Known for crazy stints, Fletcher goes off waterfalls and waves such as Mavericks on his SUP.
  • Dave Collins: Dave paddled the north end of Vancouver Island in 2009 on a SUP, runs rivers on his boards, and lives in Mexico.
  • Jenny Kalmbach: A resident of Kona, Jenny paddled the length of the Hawaiian Islands in 2011 for awareness of the problem of plastics in our oceans. Jenny is a Naish team rider and competes in many races and surf competitions.
  • Steve Boehme: Founder of Infinity Surf Boards, Steve and his family build some of best and most innovative SUPs on the market. They're located in Dana Point, California.

  • Trapezius: Muscled that moves the shoulder blade
  • Mooning the Current: Raising your board's rail towards incoming current in a river or tidal rapid.
  • Dufek: A static side draw stroke used to pull the board sideways using incoming current for forward momentum.
  • Body Armour: The use of motocross pads to protect yourself when paddling in shallow bould strewn rivers.
  • Rooster Tail: A spray or upwards movement of water when fast moving river current collides with a rock or boulder.
  • FUD: Feminine urinary directional device
