No Plot? No Problem!: A Low-Stress, High-Velocity Guide to Writing a Novel in 30 Days

by Chris Baty

Chris Baty, motivator extraordinaire and instigator of a wildly successful writing revolution, spells out the secrets of writing—and finishing—a novel. Every fall, thousands of people sign up for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), which Baty founded, determined to (a) write that novel or (b) finish that novel in—kid you not—30 days. Now Baty puts pen to paper himself to share the secrets... (read more)

I plan to start my novel-in-a-month on November 1st. Wish me luck!

Chris Baty makes it easy (and fun, if you can believe it) to write a novel. In a month. Yes, it's possible, you just have to write about 3,500 words a day.

Most definitely the resource of all resources for NaNoWriMo. Get yourself a copy before November!

borrowed from andrea. i read this very enthusiastially and passed it around, inspiring a group of ill-fated attempts at participation in "national novel writing month" (NaNoWriMo). a very conversational and entertaining approach to convincing the reader to write for writing's sake.

Written with humor and an approachability which comes from not taking one's 'art' or self too seriously, this entire book can probably be summed up as: How do you write a 50,000-word novel in 30 days? Just do it. Yet, it never occurred to me before to even try; and if it had, it would not have occurred to me to write badly, if need be, in order to meet that deadline. Once you accept that challenge (and make a deal with yourself to never let anyone read what you produce), it's liberating--so liberating you can't wait to get started on your own crappy novel. This book has already jump-started my writing--not my novel-writing...I'm saving that for this coming November's National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) for which I have already eagerly signed up!--but my writing in general: letters, emails, blogs, book reviews. It's core message is a powerful approach applicable to many things in life: Just do it. (And revise it/do it better later.) In that respect, it's a book I'd recommend not just to my writer or would-be writer friends but to all.

A fun quirky read on how to write a novel in 30 days. The author Chris Baty is the founder of national novel writing month. It is a quick fun read. Enjoy!

This is such a funny book! I didn't finish my first year of Nano, but I finished my second year.

This book was funny as hell and a stress reliever for someone doing their first NaNoWriMo book. I laughed until tears streamed down my face when Chris Baty described the procedure for ridding yourself of the internal critic for the month of November. Bwahahahahahaha!

If for not other reason, read it for the pure fun of it.

Great book on writing, different from what I have read so far. Good sense of humour. The advices are not only valid for NaNoWriMo participants.
