Liked It“An interesting concept. I like that it dispels all of the concerns you may have about actually attempting to write a novel in 30 days. Chris Baty has a fun sense of humor that makes this "learn how to write a novel in 30 days" book seem more like fiction rather than a teaching book.” see full review » see other reviews » |

Screamingly funny throughout, it is perhaps the most irreverent (and enjoyable) writercraft manual out there. Ready, steady, write!”

But not just that--you can use this book for any month-long contest. That's what I liked most about it. Baty is an enthusiastic, get-off-your-rear-and-write cheerleader, dispensing wisdom by the gallon in a funny, open way. It's a perfect light read, and makes NaNoWriMo seem not just doable--it makes you itch for November! Highly recommended.”

Very qucik read very entertaining as well if I recall correctly. I actually had to stop (yes I listened when it said don't read ahead of your weeks! lol) when I got to the first week since I wasn't ready to take that leap yet and had to return the book to the library... so when I'm ready to take the 30 day plunge I will definitely be scooping this book up again and continuing on through the end. It sounds like an awesome/exciting process... Looking forward to it sometime soon... ”

Although a lot of the book is common-sense and over-the-top encouragement, as the official NaNoWriMo book I expected as much. Fun, easy read for the daunting task ahead. What am I getting myself into? I must be nuts!”
“An OK writing book. NO PLOT? NO PROBLEM! focuses on getting you through the process (like a little cheerleader!), not helping you with style, which I found disappointing. Although it took me TWO YEARS to write my novel (not the promised one month), it really helped me psychologically.”

It seems like a fair amount of the book is "pep talk," which is a good thing when one is thinking about taking on the project of writing a novel draft in a month! I also enjoyed reading the advice, especially from previous NaNoWriMo participants.”
