# 1 Best Seller explores a situation that many people find themselves in to varying

degrees. The chance to do the right thing or the chance to enrich your life by being blind to

certain facts. While the main characters Mack , Andre and Botch swore an oath to uphold the

law, the chance to take down an oppressive mobster and have the life people dream of is to

tempting. While some will look at their actions as corrupt and reprehensible, most will be

cheering them on feeling as if their desires and dreams will somehow come closer to being

fulfilled.

Mack, Andre and Botch are all in law enforcement and their history together growing up in

the Bronx and going to Nam make them like brothers from different mothers. They know their

crazy plan will probably get them killed but they always felt they were on borrowed time anyway.

The rest of the characters help keep them balanced. Nick, Mack’s son talks his way into the plan

to take the money never expecting to meet the love of his life “Shelby” in the apartment of a drug

lord. Then Mack’s x wife Annie with whom he hasn’t spoken in years but still loves yet hates.

Then there’s Joyce, Andre’s wife who has more attitude then all of them put together. Then theirs

Debbie, Botch’s on again off again girl friend because of his commitment issues. Then there’s

Joey V. , who got his nick name from after the mobster named Sweaters cut part of his ear off, he

was originally Joey Van Gogh. Joey V. still worked for Sweaters but was Mack’s friend from the

years they both worked for Sweaters. Tommy Chang is a wealthy man with a mysterious back

round. he and Mack remained close since the days of Vietnam when Mack was married to his late

sister. He also is the one that will come up with the other half of the funds to purchase the resort

they’re going through this for. The character’s show their frailties through out the book but also

show their strengths when their faced with life and death situations and their love for one another

is obvious now matter how cruel their jokes about each other are.
When Botch approaches Mack and Andre about his dilemma. In an effort to avoid his x

girlfriend at the office, he over hears three junior agents planning to rob a big drug dealer. While

Botch looked at this as a problem, Mack and Andre looked at it like a gift horse. They convince

Botch with the slightest twist of the arm to see it their way. Nick, Mack’s son convinces his father

to be a partner. Mack explains how they could retire to La Palma island owning running their

favorite resort with their wealthy friend Tommy Chang putting up the other half. They plan on

how to swoop in and take the money with out firing a shot. When all is said and done they wind

up saving Mack’s old friend Joey V and a girl that was kidnaped by the drug dealers earlier named

Shelby. The rest weren’t as fortunate and yes they get the money.

Unfortunately the money isn’t enough to buy half of the resort. Although they made a great

score they feel as if they’ve failed. They sit around getting drunk ,Andre looks up to see his

daughter’s boy friend “Amazing Jones” quarterback for the Jets. Andre vows to kill him for

beating up his daughter. Mack tries to calm him down reminding him it’s not worth it he’ll wind

up in prison. He reminds him that he is going to pay Joey V. to give him a beating and he won’t

get in trouble. That’s when Joey V explains why not bet the other team while the Jets are heavily

favored and then we take their star quarterback out. He guarantees the Jets can’t win without

Amazing Jones. Then plays it up to Mack saying it will wipe out Mack’s sworn enemy Jerry

Sweaters. They bet it all but get caught in the process.

The second half of the book shows them all adjusting to life out of New York. While it

seems as if their dreams have come true, they are suddenly brought back down to earth. Eight

children go missing and Mack, Andre and Botch find themselves back from retirement in their

investigation they come across a plot by terrorists to blow off an old Russian made atomic bomb

smuggled out by North Korea and sold to Arab radicals in an effort to divert attention from them.

There is a belief by some scientists that if the wall of the volcano Cumbre Vieja collapses into the

Atlantic ocean it will create a tsunami big enough to wipe out the eastern sea board of the United

States. Mack and the rest uncover this plot by the terrorists to place the bomb there at the base of

the volcano but find they can’t get the corrupt authorities to help stop them. Forced to deal with

their own mortality they find out about what’s important to them, they also find out the

truth about Tommy Chang.
