- Jud (Judson) Morgan: Man of the house and overseer of the Running M Ranch ever since his father was killed in the fight for Texas independence, Jud is suspicious of the foreigners who seem to be "taking over" his Texas.
- Marion Morgan: Jud's sister, who is sweet on one of the ranch hands. She befriends the Fleischer family.
- Alvie Fleischer: Alvie is Wande's young sister, who brings joy and laughter to the Morgans after the loss of their own young sister, Billie.
- Tom Cotton: Tom's parents died after traveling to Texas and was taken in by the Morgans. He works on the ranch and courts Marion.
