  • Nick Franco: Nick Franco is the foster child of the Bishop Aaron and his wife Barbara. He is an Englisher by birth, but lives as Amish when he moves in with the bishop at a young age.
  • Rose Ann: Rose Ann is the sweet, beautiful daughter of Sol and Emma. At times her mother's ill health has overwhelmed her and has an inner fear of being a maidel.
  • Brandon: Brandon is the Englisher husband of Rose's older sister, Hen.
  • Mattie Sue: Mattie Sue is the young daughter of Hen and Brandon. Raised as English but converted to Amish at a very young age...very inclined to the Amish way of simple life.
  • Isaac: Isaac is an Amish beau of Rose Ann's who has tendencies towards the English even though he has been Amish his entire life.
  • Aaron Petersheim: The Bishop who was taken from the pulpit as a result of his son Christian's death and foster son, Nick's inability to confess what really happened between them.
