I was fascinated to hear the author describe the Matrix on NPR. Each day after 9/11, Bush and Cheney would receive a spreadsheet listing every known threat to the US. But no one wanted to miss the next terror attack, so the list was never filtered or ranked. The absence of sound analysis in the last decade runs against the theme of the rest of the book, which is a partial history of the post-Hoover FBI. I was hoping for more analytical insight.
