• Josie: Young French and drama teacher at a California private school, who becomes involved with the father of one of her students. Her lonely father misses his wife who died while Josie was away in college.
• Nico: 30's French tutor to Josie. A sympathetic poet who has his own secrets and amours
• Phillipe: French tutor who has sex with his students, is involved with another tutor, Chantall. Amoral, lacks feelings, gonad driven. No respect for family.
• Riley: Young American expat mother with a toddler and a nursing baby whose work-driven husband emotionally abandons her to find her way in a city whose language she does not speak. Riley's Mother has been diagnosed with cancer in Florida
• Chantall: French tutor - slim, elegant, proper, in a relationship with cheating Phillipe, had revenge sex with Nico, and is tutor to Jeremy
• Jeremy: Husband of a sexy American movie star shooting a film in Paris over their 10th anniversary who hired Chantall as a French tutor for him while she is working on the film. Jeremy is a successful restorer of antiques, and finds himself at home in Paris
• Simon: Father of one of Josie's students who pursues her, cheating on his wife. Middle-age man seeking youth in sex.
