Ridiculously Simplified Synopsis edit

- Number Seven: aka Marina. One of the nine surviving Garde from the planet Lorien who landed on earth at the age of six. Legacies include breathing underwater, telekinesis, reestablishing life/ healing. She has lived in a Spanish convent/orphanage for the past few years. Her guide has adopted Catholicism, has chosen to forget Lorien, and has failed to train Number Seven.
- Number Four: John Smith, the main character from the first book. He is has lumen (ability to control fire/heat), and is telekinetic.
- Adelina: Marina's Cêpan and a Nun at the orphanage. She tries to block out her memories of Lorien and pretends to be human by becoming a Catholic.
- Number 6: Female Garde who joins with Sam and John to help them find the other Lorien on the planet. She herself has the ability to become invisible and control the weather. She is strong and brave.
- Sam Goode: Number Four's (AKA John Smith) human friend. Sam is looking for his father who mysteriously disappeared, leaving only his glasses. At the end of 'I am Number 4' Sam decides to join John and Number 6 on their adventure, leaving behind his mother.
- Ella: Marina's friend at the orphanage who is sent to the orphanage after her parents were killed in a car crash. The little girl is quiet but adores Marina. She is also very skilled at art.
- Katarina: Number Six's Cêpan who died three years ago. She was captured and tortured by the Mogodorians.
- Sister Dora: A nun in the Santa Teresa orphanage. She is very strict, and does not like it when any of the girls break rules.
- Héctor Ricado: The village drunk and Marina's favorite person besides Ella. He is caring for his bedridden mother, and choses not to drink on Sundays.
- Bernie Kosar: A Chimaera who can turn in to any creature to help the Loriens. Poses as a beagle most of the time. At the end of 'I am Number 4' John realizes that Bernie Kosar is really Hadley, a chimaera who came with him on the original flight to Earth.
- Number Nine: One of the Garde. Not much is otherwise known about him. He has strength, speed, anti gravity and can talk to animals.
- Sarah Hart: John's human girlfriend. She lives in Paradise, Ohio.
- Setrákus Ra: Leader of the Mogadorians on Earth. Wears Number 1, 2 and 3's amulets around his neck.
- Crayton: Ella's unofficial Cêpan (she was too young to be officially assigned a Cêpan).

- Santa Teresa, Spain: Convent and orphanage for girls which was Marina and Adeline's home for eleven years when first coming to Earth.
- Paradise, Ohio: An action-packed return to the starting place of John's adventures leads John, Sam, and Six to new awareness and difficult decisions.
Organizations edit
- Lorien: Group of human like aliens who lived on a peaceful planet until it was destroyed. Nine gifted children and their Cepans (guardians) escaped and are now in hiding on Earth until their legacies develop.
- Mogadorians: A group of hostile aliens who plan to conquer Earth and destroy it like they did to Lorien. The only thing that is hindering their goal is 6 gifted teens that survived Lorien's destruction.
