  • Number Seven: aka Marina. One of the nine surviving Garde from the planet Lorien who landed on earth at the age of six. Legacies include breathing underwater, telekinesis, reestablishing life/ healing. She has lived in a spanish convent/orphanage for the past few years.
  • Number Four: The main character from the first book. AKA John. He is heat-resistant, has lumen, and is telekinetic. Other legacies are coming, but we don't know what yet.
  • Adelina: Marina's Cêpan and a sister at the orphanage. She tries to block out her memories of Lorien and pretends to be human by becoming a Christian.
  • Number 6: Female Garde who joins with Sam and John to help them find the other Lorien on the planet. She herself has the ability to become invisible, protection from fire and control the weather
  • Sam Goode: Number Four's (AKA John Smith) human friend. looking for his father who mysteriously disappeared,leaving only his glasses.
  • Ella: Marina's friend at the orphanage who is sent to the orphanage because both of her parents died in a car crash. The little girl is quiet but adores Marina. She is also very skilled at art.
  • Katarina: Six's Cêpan who died three years ago. She was captured and tortured by the Moghedien.
  • Sister Dora: A nun in the Santa Theresa orphanage who is not very nice.
  • Héctor Ricado: The village drunk and Marina's favorite person besides Ella. He is caring for his bedridden mother.
  • Bernie Kosar: A Chimaera who can turn in to any creature to help the Loriens.
  • Number Nine: One of the Garde. Not much is otherwise known about him. He has strength and speed, and can talk to animals.
  • Sarah Hart: John's human girlfriend left in paradise, Ohio.
  • Setrákus Ra: Leader of the Mogadorians on Earth. Wears Number 1, 2 and 3's amulets around his neck.
  • Crayton: Ella's unofficial Cêpan (she was too young to be officially assigned a Cêpan)
