  • Juro: One of the miller's men. Seemingly a slow-witted man fit only for cleaning and cooking.
  • Lobosch: The latest addition to the miller's men.
  • Lyshko: One of the miller's men. He likes to snitch on the others to the miller.
  • Merten: One of the miller's men. Good friend of Michal's.
  • Miller: The master of the mill. He also teaches the black arts to the journeymen.
  • The Goodman: Shows up once a year with a load to be threshed.
  • Andrush: One of the miller's men. Quick-witted and funny, likes to tell jokes and keep everyone's spirits up.

  • Big Hat: A legendary journeyman of whom many stories are told. Supposedly, he goes around the countryside, challenging master millers and setting things right for journeymen.
