Didn’t Like It“This is the first book of Coelho I have read and reading other reviews it may not be the one with which to start. Although I thought it was fiction it appears to be an autobiography of his spiritual search. Certain things in his story one can identify with, others seem a little too spiritual. But what one can take out of this book is certain lessons, the most important of all, which has been the center of many of his books, follow your dreams and do not be afraid of taking risks!!”

The anguish he faces in terms of his 'own path' is representative of what most amongst us go thru at some point of time in life. The book goes on to address several of these dormant questions. It's amazing how Paulo bares his own past while undertaking his journey & resolves issues which are open for a long time. A book to read only if you have read his other books first.”

It's not and easy thing to describe or understand at first. But if you believe in living past lives and feel at times that you meet someone you once share a past life memory with, the place where you encounter this memorie, this journey back into time is when both people meet in the Aleph and can share this memory with each other. Here Paulo set out to correct a wrong of a past life, that he becomes aware of in the Aleph with this young woman who sought him out at a book signing and journey with Coelho thru a long book tour. Only to find she was a girl in he once knew in a past life, when they meet at the Aleph. ”

I thought this was an older book so I got it only to feel cheated some how. It feels like a 5star gourmet chef throwing afew sticks of raw vegetables at your plate and saying the art is all in the dressing.
The first half of the book was we went. We ate. We walked..etc. Simply dragging us through pages of some sort of a diary without the least bit of refinement. He didn't even bother to put a proper name for his Guru, regardless of whether he wanted to keep his identity a secret.
Only during the second half is there anything. One gets a glimpse of Paulos art in the Dungeon and in Lake Baikal. Otherwise, not much.
I bought the book at the fiction section. If it were 'autobiography' of 'travel books' I wouldn't have bought it.
The few points of philosophy here and there weren't worth reading a whole book of 'I sat'. I slept. I ate.
I wonder, did he read 'eat pray love' before writing this book?”
