• Raisa ana'Marianna: Heir to the Queendom of the fells. She is of mixed-blood, her father is Demonai clan. She is strong-willed and stubborn, but extremely caring, and will do anything to protect those she loves. She had a love interest with Han when he knew her by the name Rebecca.
• Han Alister: He used to go by the name of Cuffs, when he was streetlord of the Raggers. After discovering he was a wizard, he went to school to learn how to use and control his powers. He made a bargain with the clans, promising to help them fight against the wizards, in return for them sending him to school.
• Amon Byrne: He is a Corporal in the Queen's Guard, and will become Captain once Raisa ascends the throne. He has been Raisa's closest friend since childhood. He is to be married off even though he's in love with Raisa, and she with him, because his priority is that of duty.
• Micah Bayar: The son of the High Wizard, Gavan Bayar, and twin brother to Fiona. He has long since courted Raisa, but his motives as to doing that are unclear.
• Cat Tyburn: Former member, and later streetlord of the Raggers, she ended up going to the Temple School to study music. She is walking out with (publicly dating) Dancer.
• Reid Nightwalker: A renowned Demonai warrior. He is very skilled at what he does, although a bit pompous and arrogant. He's also a potential suitor for the princess heir.
• Mellony ana'Marianna: Raisa's 13-year-old sister. She is much more like her mother, Marianna, then Raisa is, both in terms of personality and looks.
• Hayden Fire Dancer: A clan-born wizard and childhood friend of Han's. He is walking out (publicly courting) with Cat.
• Fiona Bayar: Twin of Micah Bayar. She is ambitious, and craves power. She suggests to Han that they could rule together as Queen and King of the Fells, and get rid of the Gray Wolf line entirely.
• Alger Waterlow: Also known as the Demon King, he is responsible for the near destruction of the world in what is called the Breaking. The Breaking divided the once whole kingdom into seven different realms. He is the reason why the gray wolf line cannot marry wizards.
• Marianna ana'Lissa: Queen of the Fells and mother to Raisa and Mellony. She is a gentle ruler, but many think she is too weak, and too easily corrupted by the High Wizard.
• Averill Demonai: Royal consort to the queen and father of Raisa and Mellony. He is clan, and patriarch of the Demonai clan.
• Edon Byrne: Captain of the Queen Marianna's Guard and father of Amon. He is committed to protecting the Queen and above all the Gray Wolf line. He is a good warrior, and a kind, blunt but truthful, good man.
