A charming family story about Ruth, who loves to bake cakes, and finds herself using baking as a coping technique when her aging, divorced parents move in to the house with her, her teenage daughter and unemployed husband. What looks like a disaster turns into an opportunity as everyone pitches in and grows closer as they work through all the challenges. A sweet story.

Audio read by the author.... ok but this book meanders, there is some language... I guess it is a relationship book... I like most the kinds of cakes she makes...I wish they had a button for "It is ok"

While this was a humorous look at family struggles in this day and age when many generations of families are forced to live together due to economic circumstances, some of the humor hits a little too close to home. The main character's sanctuary is to resort to cake-baking at every opportunity. That luscious topic will have you drooling on every other page. A good read about persistence and finding alternatives.

Good book. Sam loses his job and Ruth's father calls from the hospital and needs a place to stay since he broke both his hands. Ruth's mother already lives with her & Sam and they don't get along. Money is an issue since Sam can't find a job. Ruth bakes cakes to relieve stress. Her father suggests she bake cakes for a living. The whole family gets involved in the new business. This book is about life goals, mnistakes and how to accept change. It is a quick read.
