“A great ending to the series, I loved getting Caelen's story. I wish there was more! I loved the whole series. The McCabes and McDonalds now, both have my heart. :-)”Tracyseb wrote this review 13 hours ago. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“Caelen McCabe volunteers to wed Rionna McDonald when his brother Alaric leaves her at the altar and marries his love, Keeley McDonald. Caelen volunteers because this marriage will solidify the alliance between the two clans, but he also secretly thinks she pretty hot. But, of course, he's not going to let her know that. Rionna was originally supposed to marry the eldest brother and laird, Ewan McCabe, but he jilted her for Mairin Stuart, the illegitimate daughter of King Alexander. Then Alaric left her standing at the altar. Now she's finally married to Caelen but she's really quite scared of him. Either of the other two brothers would have been fine but Caelen is always angry and aloof.”Sue Plaisance wrote this review Monday, August 26, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? “This is my favorite of the series. I love Rionna as a heroine because she is a warrior princess who saves her husband's life. Caelen is more protective and grumpier than his brothers because he was betrayed once by a woman he loved. The ending of this book is cheesy and over the top like the previous books- but really romanctic as well. All three books were good reads. ”ALICE S wrote this review Wednesday, January 16, 2013. "Never Love a Highlander" by Maya Banks was as always a wonderful read. This novel was a conclusion to a wonderful trilogy that only this author..Maya Banks can deliver. The novel was of a 'Scottish' historical romance of the McCabe trilogy. What would become of Caelen and Rionna as he takes over the McDonald Clan...where there had been a marriage out of the sense of duty...returns to take over the McDonald clan. Ms. Banks offers us a relationship between Caelen and Rionna only causing this to be a very hot, steamy and sexual read...all the characters were so very strong and well developed that would only keep the reader on the edge of their seat. You will find from the read that this hero and heroine both "had been wounded deeply by their pass and nothing could heal it but only each other." Now, for you to found out how this will play out you must pick up "Never Love a Highlander" to find out just what Ms. Banks has in store for the reader. I felt this novel flowed very well...especially with it being the last of this series...being very interesting and even suspenseful. Be ready for a novel presenting..."romance, betrayal, a bit of mystery" and a over all excellent read.
If you are looking for a 'McCabe Series' that only Ms. Banks can give us... you have come to the right place and yes I would recommend "Never Love a Highlander" as a excellent read.
“Great story with strong h/h. Caelen McCabe is marrying Rionna McDonald to merger their clans and fight a common enemy. Rionna is a strong, female warrior in her clan. Caelen is a legend. What fun this was”Marty H wrote this review Sunday, December 23, 2012. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Finally we come to the last book in the trilogy and the most stoic brother, Caelen. Because of a past discretion that lead to some horrific outcomes, Caelen has always put honor and his clan before all else. So when circumstances change with Alaric not marrying Rionna, Caelen steps in. Little does he know that he has indeed met his match.
To be honest, I wasn't sure what to make of this couple. They both are really so similar in how they regard their clan and honor...and being a great warrior is high on their lists. Knowing there was a HEA helped me because I knew there would be a lot of give and take from each of them. It did take till 75% for it to start getting really good...and interesting and for that it got bumped up to four stars.
Caelen has always been the tough guy. We know from the beginning that he fell in love with someone who betrayed him and caused the deaths of several family members and the destruction of some of the McCabe keep. He supposedly will never love again but I enjoyed finding out that he was interested in Rionna from the first moment he saw her. That gave me hope. It was great seeing him change his views...and feelings.
Rionna has always been made out to be manly looking. With her way of dress and her need to fight, we never got to see her feminine side. Thankfully we get to see that in this book and boy do we. I never pictured her quite so beautiful and her "boobs"...that bust me up! I wasn't sure if she would be able to take orders from Caelen but I ended up liking how they worked things out.
I enjoyed still getting to know what's happening with all the prior characters and having them be involved. I wasn't sure how things would work out with all the McCabes being at different locations but I liked how MB worked it out. It was also great getting to know some of the McDonalds. The only thing is that I wished something would've worked out for Gannon like it did for Cormac.
I loved the ending...but you just knew what would happen. I was just surprised by who did what during the fight and I have to admit, I wish things would've been a little different. I was totally shocked at what Caelen did at the end...never saw that coming!
Overall, a great addition to the trilogy and something I would definitely recommend if you're looking for some hunky highlanders.
BTW...I still enjoy the cover but as with all the covers for the series, I wish the men had long hair like they are supposed to.
“You were right.”
“What was I right about?”
“Kissing. ’Tis a most wondrous thing.”
She could sense his smile.
♥ “I love you,” he said fiercely. “ ’Tis not true that I kept a part of my heart locked away from you. You own all of it, lass. You’ve always owned it. I didn’t give it to you. You took it from the very start.”
♦ “Methinks marriage has made my brother soft,” Alaric replied. “ ’Tis a shame when a puny lass has to save his arse.”
“4.5 STARS Ewan marries Mairin in order to save her and gain fortune for their clan... Alaric falls for Keely who nursed him back from death...Rionna has again been jilted by the McCabe brothers. Youngest brother, Caelen out of nowhere stands up and takes on a responsibility he never thought he would have - being a Laird of his own clan. While he is sad to leave behind his brothers and all he knows he heads forward with Rionna. Out of all the McCabe brothers, Caelen was the last one she wanted to marry. His gruff and proper ways leave Rionna forced into a role of a wife and woman she is not used to. The two have a secret from their past that holds them back from one another...but is it something they can afford with Cameron quick on their heels?
Finally, poor Rionna becomes a wife and not just a bride. Rionna is a great warrior and such an innocent girl that it was great to see her confidence rise and be nurtured. I always liked Caelen but he kind of scared me at the same time. I am glad he was able to be matched with a woman that not only challenges him but gives him loyalty. A great conclusion to the series BUT I want more. There is potential for further books...or is that mty wishful thinking talking? ”
“Enjoyed every part of this book!!! Could not put it down loved all three books and can't wait to read more by Maya Banks. Caelen and Rionna's story was well written and I would not have it any other way. Loved how Rionna opens Caelen up to love again and to see how strong she is.I would be proud to call this my clan.”Hawaiianwahine00 wrote this review Thursday, July 26, 2012.
