I think this book is a fantastic one for book clubs. It is a very easy read but at the same time it had my brain working the whole time as I contemplated some of the concepts that were being presented. It is thought provoking but funny and quirky at the same time and I definitely enjoyed it even...

This book is morally discussable. Why? Well, I found out that this book tells you that it's OK to go to business trips and fuck every girl, while at home you already have a girlfriend!? And that despite all that, when you find out that that were just "flings" and that you CAN'T do any better, you...

a beautiful, simple to-the-kids-level written masterpiece, with some heavy lessons on happiness

If I could describe this book in three words, those words would be: cute, sweet, and nice. It's not like I was super crazy about it, but it was simply a good read. Nothing more, nothing less. I'm sad about Ying Li though. They shouldn't gotten married or something. But of course she had to have a baby with that French army guy. Sigh. It was good, though.

I thought "Hector and the Search for Happiness" was written in an interesting manner. However, I found the read exceptionally slow--perhaps because I was also taking classes--and a couple of plot points irritating. For example, (spoiler alert!) Hector cheats on his girlfriend and this mistake is, not only left unresolved, not addressed as much of a mistake at all. Hector never confesses to his betrayal (although, I know that there are sequels which may have this addressed in them, I haven't read them) and he is only afflicted with a minuet sense of guilt which is quickly overrode.

This is an entertaining little book which explores aspects of happiness and speculates about what produces happiness in people in general. Hector is a psychologist who embarks on a multi-national search for a definition of happiness. The book is entirely optimistic and wise with lots of thought provoking situations.

Loved it - if you liked the Petit Prince and the Alchemist - it's sort of like that - only about Happiness. Short, funny, insightful! I'm going to read his next one - Hector and the Secrets of Love!

Lelord's portrayal of happiness is very genuine. I found the book light and sweet, personally it made me assess what i perceived as happiness. Also that sometimes us as a human race take some portions of our lives way to seriously. I would thoroughly recommend this book, as it helps you to look on the brighter side.

A mixture of charming and trite, this little book failed in the end to do much for me. The narration was refreshing for the first several pages, written as it is in the manner of a child's book for adults, but soon I found the same voice to be nauseating. Hector turns out to be rather shallow in the end.
