Didn’t Like It1 of 1 members found this review helpful“This was an interesting series, but I gave up around book four when I realized it was a SIX book series. I just got tired of waiting to see how it was going to wrap up. I felt suckered when I realized the first two-part series was not a full story, then totally foolish when I realized that the...” see full review » see other reviews » |

He tends to have these very large volumes that he divides into publishable portions. Since this is a space opera, there is a vast array of characters and the development of each takes a little time. But it is time well spent, as it makes the rest of the story that much better. I am very much looking forward to the rest of the series. 1100 pages down, 2300 left to go . . .”

It is so incredibly awesome, you will be absolutely sucked in to the story. It is almost good enough to make up for how this series sizzles dreadfully worse than Matrix.”

However Hamilton's description of the "other" is well worth it. Some adult sections and some of those are...odd. The many story lines really started to hook me about page 460”
“I found this book very difficult to get into from the beginning. It's an entirely other take on science fiction than I was used to, especially because of the emphasis on 'bitek' (bio-technology) instead of 'regular' technology. After I passed this hurdle I enjoyed it quite a lot.”

The threat posed in this story is so scary it makes you wonder how on earth it will ever be resolved. You can see the point of and sympathise with the supposed evil forces here which makes awkward reading. This is a good point.
Not so sure the Ly-Cylph needed so detailed a history though. Also Ione Saldana seems to be Julia from the mindstar books all over again. These are minor quibbles though. The book (and series) are fantastic.”
“Got this as a recommendation from my sci-fi reading sister. I *hated* it. First, too many points of view, including one alien in symbiosis with an organic spaceship that was just a little too abstract to follow. Then, it took forever to weave the plot points together (most of them come together, eventually.) Then there was simply too much sexual violence. Way more than necessary, and other violence was depicted at a much higher gore level than I care for. Really did not enjoy this book, even though I wanted to and I think the writer has some really interesting ideas.”

Other than that it rocked - the universe was good, lots of POVs and I think he writes some of the best action sequences I've read in sf.
Sometimes I worry that an sf novel is going to go too 'big science' and neglect to show off the authors technodeath action scenes, but you don't have to worry with Hamilton.”
