Taylor is looking for his son whom he has not seen since the Cleansing. He thought his travels through the radioactive and virus infected suburbs he used to call home would be simple. That was until he met them. A group or women and children slaves in desperate need of rescue. He knew that he had to save them. He also knew that if his son was still alive, he needed to find him.

In a hidden military base, Dr. Miles Richards works on a cure for the ever spreading virus. With the aid of Dorothy, a self-aware robot he created, they discover far more than mutated viruses hidden deep in the military computer. Who was Dr. Atkins? And why was his research encrypted? Did it have anything to do with his dead daughter or the multiple variations of a virus that had already killed millions of innocent people? Could a cure be found before it was too late?

In this first novel of the Pandemic Dawn Series, B. A. Shields combines a suspenseful journey of conflict with romance and loyalty. A gripping story of one man searching for his lost son and finding hope, while another who searches for a lost cure discovers his true identity.

Glossary edit see section history

  • Burbs: Slang for suburbs, which are controlled by gangs and slave traders since the cleansing.
  • The Cleansing: The Cleansing was the governments answer to the quickly spreading, and mutating virus. They announced that a "cure" had been discovered for the virus, and that everyone should go to their local Health Department to receive this cure at an appointed date and time. At this appointed time, the military had released mini-nukes aimed at these departments in an attempt to kill those infected, and in turn stop the virus from spreading further. The only problem with this measure was, when people became infected, they were incapable of understanding or responding to requests of this type. In essence, once infected, they became zombie-like, and dangerously aggressive. All the Cleansing accomplished was killing millions of innocent people.
  • The Cursed: The Cursed refer to people who have been infected by the virus, or a mutated strand of the virus, and have become zombie-like. Cursed are very violent, uncontrollable, and will viciously attack anyone within reach, causing the spread of the virus which infected them, along with any mutations which may have taken place.
