Mark Kurlansky is known for his singular-themed books, such as 'Cod' and 'Salt.' I appreciate what he is trying to do with 'World Without Fish' but it is simply too wordy and laden with advanced vocabulary to capture a young interest. At best this book would suit an upper elementary, high-level reader with a genuine concern for the environment and an interest in science.
