St. Louis, 1927. Prohibition has sparked the engine of organized crime. Fueled by the fortunes of bootlegging, gangsters rule the city though speakeasies - Speakeasies like Lackadaisy. Competition is fierce, and in this city, you're either holding the gun, or taking the bullet. But with all... read more

Characters/People edit see section history

  • Roark "Rocky" Rickaby: Idiot, genius, and seldom anything in-between, Rocky is a member of the Lackadaisy's jazz orchestra who's recently stepped up to fill the shoes of a whiskey and gin runner - and some rather over-sized shoes they are for a manic violinist with a beanpole physique. He's been a little bit of everywhere and back again, though, and if there's anything he's learned along the way it's... well, okay, he didn't learn a damn thing. The important thing is that he managed to survive. Somehow.
  • Atlas May: Atlas was a St. Louis native born with no advantages to speak of save for a shrewd business sense. Though he began as a small-time restauranteur, the onset of Prohibition, access to the city's maze of underground caves, and his own opportunism culminated in the establishment of the bootlegging operation known as the Lackadaisy Speakeasy. Until his death, it was the city's most lucrative, most popular place to indulge in vice and music. Now that only his legacy remains, the Lackadaisy's survival is dubious at best.
  • Mitzi May: Mitzi - a rather curvaceous bundle of sugary-sweet ambition - is Atlas' widow. Once upon a time, before marrying, she was a Jazz Age prima donna. Now that Atlas is gone and Lackadaisy is in her hands, she's still a prima donna of sorts, but she's also just establishing her footing as a - how shall we put it? - entrepeneur. She's off to a shaky start, but she's nearly imperturbable.
  • Viktor Vasko: Viktor is often aptly referred to as "Vinegar" (but only by those who know him well enough to address him as such without being punched). He was a whiskey and gin runner for Atlas and subsequently for Mitzi until age and injury relegated him to less demanding work - primarily bartending. It doesn't suit him in the least, but it gives him plenty of time to practice glaring.
  • Sedgewick "Wick" Sable: Wick is a mining and quarrying magnate, definite proponent of the laissez-faire and loyal, longtime patron of the Lackadaisy. Though something of a workaholic (and perhaps equal parts alcoholic), he's got an otherwise genial approach to life and an appreciation for all the ritual niceties of high society. Being Mitzi's latest beau, however, is proving a rather harrowing adventure.
  • Ivy Pepper: Ivy is Atlas May's goddaughter, a university student, and a lively slip of a girl. Working at the register part-time at the Little Daisy Cafe has made her privy to the goings-on below at the Lackadaisy - and what and irresistible subterranean scene that is for a budding socialite. Flighty though she may be, she's managed to make a name for herself on the school rifle team.
  • Calvin "Freckle" McMurray: Quiet, mannerly, hard-working Calvin is the diminutive orange apple of his mother's eye. It may be that there are a few screws loose beneath the unassuming visage, though; things tend to get a little more interesting when Mom's not looking and he's packing iron. His noble bid to join the local police force didn't quite turn out as planned, but his cousin, Rocky, would be remiss to let such talent go untapped.
  • Nina McMurray: Nina is Freckle's mother, Rocky's aunt, and more Irish-Catholic than you could shake a stick at. You wouldn't want to anyway. She'd likely take it from you and beat you stupid with it for your insolence. Then she'd make you feel guilty for exhausting her like that. Though she's very capably independent, she maintains some old-fashioned sensibilities which have left her none too pleased with the way the twentieth century is going.
  • Nicodeme "Nico" Savoy: A member of the Marigold gang and Serafine's brother. His talents include napping, fishing, rolling his eyes, and pounding the ever-loving snot out of hapless adversaries. And if you ask nicely, he'll generally oblige requests to undertake any one of these tasks with characteristic nonchalance. He seems to enjoy a sort of effortless popularity with the lady-types too.
  • Serafine Savoy: Serafine is a member of the Marigold gang and a self-proclaimed Voodoo priestess (what do St. Louisans know about Voodoo anyway?). She's had a Cajun upbringing rough-and-tumble enough to give her an edge, but not so harsh that she can't look classy doing her thing. Her thing involves an automatic rifle named Boudreaux.
  • Mordecai Heller: Though his humourless, pince-nez might make him look something like an accountant, Mordecai's actually the Marigold gang's primary triggerman. Having been a member of Atlas' crew from the Lackadaisy's glory days, he's got an experienced, calculating head on his shoulders... and perhaps a chip or two as well.
