“Widow Silence Hollingbrook has taken care of Baby Mary Darling since she found her on her steps. Now River Pirate "Charming" Mickey O'Connor claims to be Mary's father and has taken her to his palace. He then blackmails Silence into living at his residence to take care of the baby. Mick knows that his enemy, The Vicar of Whitechapel, will hurt anyone Mickey care about, so he wants to make sure Silence and Mary Darling are safe. Silence doesn't trust Mick. His actions a year ago caused a rift in her marriage that was never repaired. But as she gets to know the pirate, he shows her there is more to him than meets the eye.
I wondered if Mickey O'Connor could be redeemed after ruining Silence's life with his actions in the first book of this series. I'm happy to say that Hoyt did a great job with this character. Mick's actions were driven by his past. He believed himself unlovable, and became a pirate to gain riches and make sure he was never destitute again. He didn't plan on Silence and the affect she had on him. Silence is a person who always tries to do the right thing. Even though spending the night with Mickey was innocent, her husband and family never believed that nothing happened. Now in order to stay with Mary Darling and be protected from The Vicar, Silence must learn to live with Mick and forgive him. My rating: 4 Stars.”
“Following the build up to Silence and Mickey’s romance in the previous books, Scandalous Desires lives up to expectations barring one or two small issues.
Charming Mickey O’Connor is a pirate who makes no effort to conceal his autocratic, decadent and ruthless nature. He is also haunted by the memory of Silence Hollingbrook, the gracious and sedate widow whose reputation and marriage he so callously destroyed. So, when the opportunity arises for Mickey to once again have Silence in his life, he grasps it with both hands.
Despite his rakish charms, it takes time to warm up to Mickey but once his traumatic past it revealed, it is impossible not to fall for him as Silence does. Speaking of Silence, her prim and proper ways conceal a passionate heart and tremendous capacity for love that slowly chips away at Mickey’s cold-hearted facade. Silence manages to charm not only Mickey but everyone in his household from the sullen guard to the cantankerous cook to the smelly bulldog.
Mickey and Silence’s romance is suitably steamy and the suspense plot is fast paced with an action packed climax and a villain who gets his just deserts. Nevertheless, the ultimate revelation of the Ghost’s identity falls somewhat flat and I hope that the next book will contribute more to this storyline. ”
“Who Can Resist a Not So Good Pirate? The third book in the Maiden Lane series does not disappoint. The story of Silence Hollingbrook and Charming Mickey O'Connor is a definite treat. For me one of the most interesting parts of the story is how we learn that the night when Mickey "ruined" Silence by having her spend the night with him (even though nothing happened) changed not only Silence's life, but also Mickey's. I always enjoy how Hoyt has characters develop and evolve though her books. I also really enjoy how her Maiden Lane series uses the characters throughout all the books. The incident from book one of the series, spawns this story. While one does not need to read all the books, there is certainly a more layered and interesting storyline being developed throughout all the books. That being said, I hope that Hoyt will give us an update on Mickey and Silence in a future Maiden Lane novel.”AUenUrsa wrote this review Tuesday, October 15, 2013. “I thought the idea for this book was terrific, but it didn't really deliver 100%. The story seemed to drag from about half way, even if the love scenes were hot.”Jillian Leigh wrote this review Sunday, January 20, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Scandalous Desires is book 3 (I think) on the Maiden Lane series.
You don't need to have read the earlier books to make sense of this one, but it will make you more fully appreciate the awesome talent of this author if you have.
Silence is a widow, her beloved husband dies as sea and her remaining solace is a baby, Mary Darling abandoned on the steps of the Foundling Home she helps run. However, it turns out Mary Darling is the child of one Mickey O'Connor and it just so happens that Mickey is a dangerous river pirate, who's worst enemy is out to hurt him any way he can...and knows where Mary lives. As his enemy, the Vicar, closes in on him Mickey has no choice but to move Mary, and the woman the babe regards as mother, into his palace to protect them. But Mickey hasn't reckoned on falling in love with Silence and his daughter, and is faced with life changing decisions if he is to face up to his true feelings.
I L-O-V-E-D this book. On so many levels it could have been a disaster - how can love flourish between such polarised good and bad people, how can a notorious gang man succumb to the soft attractions of a virtuous woman? And yet, somehow, Ms Hoyt manages it...and then some, with style.
This book is perfection for its type - the only possible reason it could receive reviews rated anything less than 5 is if the reader isnt truly looking for a great, escapist historical romance in which to lose themselves.
Highly recommended. ”
“The third book in the series features Charming Micky O' Connor who is a river pirate and Silence Hollingbrook a widow who works at a foundling home. The story is sexy and intriguing.”Cecilia R wrote this review Friday, January 4, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“If you love novels that take place on the sea, you'll enjoy this red hot novel that deals with pirates. In Scandalous Desires, we're introduced to Silence Hollingbrook, a young widow. When I've read this novel, I've became captured by her tale of loss, scandal and compassionate for a young babe, who she have taken care as her own. No doubt about it, her family takes care of her and protect her well-being. Then, we meet Mickey O'Connor, a river pirate, who has an agenda of his own. We see how he takes care of his crew and employees. We see him in action and witness his secretive past. Whoever thought river pirates can be sexy? Little by little, we see how sparks fly between Silence and Mickey. It's steamy. Talk about a scandal! But we witness how they encounter danger together to the bitter end. All aboard!”Kristen H wrote this review Thursday, June 21, 2012. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
