  • Donna Jorgenson: Donna lives in Silver Pines, Minnesota. She is attending quilt camp in order to meet her Internet friend, Megan. She also cam because she is a coward. Her eldest daughter just got engaged to a man who they don't know very well. She doesn't feel that her daughter's heart is in this marriage. She is attending camp because it got her out of meeting her fiance's parents.
  • Julia Merchaud: Famous TV star who is doing research for an upcoming part she will play. She needs to learn to quilt as the character she will play is an expert quilter.
  • Grace Daniels: Celebrated quilt artist from San Francisco who is very interested in historical African-American quiltmakers. She has a daughter, Justine, and grandson,Joshua. She feels her "muse" has left her. She is an old friend of Sylvias.
  • Megan Donohue: Megan is from Monroe, Ohio. Her watercolor charm quilt won contemporary Quilting magazine's quilt contest and the first prize was the trip to the quilting camp. She is divorces and has a son, Robby. She is also an aerospace engineer who loves to quilt. Her best friend is Donna, whom she has never met until attending quilt camp.
  • Adam: Grandson of Lavinia Burkholder who he calls Nana. He is the one who drives Nana to the quilt camp. He is feeling sorry for himself as he was to have been married to Natalie but instead the wedding was called off and his ex-fiance and her sister were going on the non-refundable trip to the Bahamas instead.
  • Sylvia Compson: She runs a quilt retreat at Elm Creek Manor in Waterford, Pennsylvania. She had been estranged from her sister since WWII; but, upon her sister's death, had come home to build a new future for herself and to at last reclaim her family's history. She is all but retired fro the business now at Elm Creek Quilts.
  • Maury: The retired agent of Julia Merchaud. As his one last act, he convinces Julia to take a role of a woman named Sadie Henderson in a piece titled "A Patchwork Life."
  • Lavinia Burkholder: Everyone caller her Vinnie, except for her grandchildren who call her Nana. She attends the Elm Creek Quilter's camp to celebrate her birthday. She has the distinction of being one of the very first campers.
  • Angela Clark: She is a new quilter from Erie, Pennsylvania. Her oldest son died in a car accident two years ago. She came to the quilt camp to improve her skills as she wants to make a memorial quilt.
  • Ellen Henderson: She is the play write who wrote "A Patchwork Life" which is the story of her great-grandmother. Her script is based on her diaries.
  • Ares: Julia Merchaud's new agent. He has a reputation for being ruthless and for doing anything it takes to get his clients the roles they sought. He is the nephew of one of Hollywood's most powerful directors.
  • Matthew: Matthew is the caretaker at Elm Creek Manor.
