This novel is prettty hard to explain. It really doesn't have much of a plot - that doesn't mean it was a bad story, on the contrary, it was actually quite a nice story that shows usually looked-down upon people as warm and caring people. The story is basically a study of a short period of time...

I guess it is just a story about the people of Cannery Row in Monterey. Nothing special. Does not compare to The Grapes of Wrath.

6 hrs - borrowed from Dunlap Library - Adventures of cannery workers living in the run-down waterfront section of Monterey, California.

Wonderful book for frog giggers, biologists, the confused, perplexed, lonely English students of all sorts.

It is sad there is not another author like him, he was one of a kind.

REQUIRED READING - ELEVENTH GRADE: This novel is about a small town located by the canneries in Salinas, California. Main characters are Mack, Doc, and Lee Chong. The theme is one of unity just like The Grapes of Wrath. I liked this book very much because it was easy to enjoy and I found myself liking and knowing the characters well.

The most beautiful opening paragraph of anything I've read. More to come later...

Great book as everything I've read from Steinbeck. Gets you really into what's happening in Monterey and the lads from Cannery Row
